The D Las Vegas Review: The Downtown Stay That Puts You Right in the Action
When planning a weekend getaway trip to Las Vegas, finding the right home base is key. You need a place that’s clean, convenient, and doesn't eat up your entire travel budget. We did not drink or gamble too much, so accessibility, and exploration were our top two must-haves.
For our weekend trip, we chose The D Las Vegas downtown, which I’d rate a solid 3-4 stars. It was the perfect location for folks staying directly on the strip.
In my experience, if anyone asked me about recommendations to Vegas - I would say to stay on the strip once to experience all it has to offer, then maybe a second time away from it to explore the surrounding areas a bit more.
The D isn't about five-star luxury—it's about five-star access. It's a hotel for the active explorer who prioritizes location and value over a fancy lobby. Our room served its purpose perfectly: a comfortable space to recharge after long days and nights of exploring. You will be RIGHT on the strip - so there is subject to some noise, but what truly elevated our stay and made The D a winning choice boiled down to two simple, essential features:
The Pool: Your Break for a Mid-Day Recharge
Vegas days are exhausting, and having a great spot to relax is a non-negotiable. The D's pool area became our favorite midday retreat from the hectic complexities of Sin City! Forget the massive, over-the-top pool complexes of the Strip; this was our perfectly sized, relaxing soaking area. After hours of walking and sightseeing, the pool offered the ideal spot to cool down and soak up the desert sun.
This pool provided a refreshing dip, relaxing ambiance right before a quick meal and nap to give you the burst of energy that gets you ready for your next adventure. If your travel style requires an accessible, enjoyable place to decompress before going back out to tackle the town, The D delivers.
Location, Location, Location: Step Out Right onto Fremont Street
This is where The D shines. Stepping out of the lobby, you are immediately immersed in the Fremont Street Experience. There’s no need to take a cab or walk blocks just to find the action; it’s right there, and if you are feeling overwhelemed, need a break or forgot something your hotel is steps away.
This prime location downtown makes it incredibly easy to explore the nearby Fremont East District (more on that in our next post!) and gives you seamless access to dining, entertainment, and the vibrant street performers. Plus, for those days we wanted to hit the famous Strip or surrounding areas to explore, the proximity to public transport made connecting effortless.
*The Verdict: The D Las Vegas is an excellent choice for travelers who want a central, high-energy location and a great pool without paying a premium. It’s a practical, fun, and highly walkable option that puts you exactly where you need to be to start exploring.
